Privacy Policy

1. Data Controller
ReligionCompare is operated by TPS Worldwide LLC, Phoenix, AZ, USA ("we," "us," or "our"). We are the data controller for the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act / California Privacy Rights Act (CCPA/CPRA), and other applicable data protection laws.
2. What We Collect
No accounts: The site has no visitor accounts, sign-ups, or newsletters. Reading the site does not require you to give us your name or email address.
Contact form: If you send a message through our contact form, we store the name, email address, subject, and message you enter, together with a hashed (scrambled) form of your IP address that we use only to limit abuse of the form. We use these details to read and answer your message. They are kept in our database until we delete them.
Site usage records (first party): When you view a page, or click a link to Amazon, the site records the page address, the type of event (page view, shop click or share button click), for shop clicks the link address, for share clicks which share button was used (not what was shared), the name of the website that linked you here (the site name only, never the page you came from), whether you arrived through one of our own calendar feeds, RSS feed or share links, and a hashed (scrambled) form of your IP address that changes every hour; the address itself is never stored. This uses no cookie and no identifier stored on your device. We use these records to see which pages are read. They contain no name, email, or other directly identifying information, and they are kept for as long as they are useful for site statistics.
Google Analytics 4: The site loads Google Analytics in Google's "consent mode". Until you accept analytics cookies in the cookie banner, and if you decline them, Google Analytics runs without cookies and receives only limited, cookieless signals (such as the page viewed, the country, and whether the visit is new) that Google uses for aggregate reporting. If you accept, Google Analytics sets cookies and collects usage data: pages visited, session duration, approximate region, device type, browser, and referral source. IP addresses are not stored by Google Analytics 4.
Advertising: The site is set up to use Google AdSense, but ads are currently switched off and no AdSense script loads. A small verification tag in the page code identifies our AdSense account to Google and collects nothing. If ads are switched on, this policy and the cookie banner will be updated first, and advertising cookies will be set only with your consent.
Cookies and local storage: The site stores your cookie choice, your light or dark theme preference and a list of the last five comparisons you opened in your browser's local storage (not as cookies). That list is shown only to you on the compare page and is never sent to the site. Analytics cookies are set only with your consent. Our hosting provider, Cloudflare, may set its own security cookies. Server logs: Cloudflare may log IP addresses, request timestamps, and browser details for security and performance purposes. These logs are retained per Cloudflare's data processing policies.
3. How We Use Information
We use the information described above to: operate and maintain the website; answer messages sent through the contact form; understand which pages are read (site usage records and Google Analytics); detect and prevent abuse or security threats; improve content; and comply with legal obligations. Our legal basis under GDPR is our legitimate interest in running and improving an educational website (site usage records, security, contact form handling) and your consent (analytics cookies).
4. Third-Party Services
Google Analytics 4: Provided by Google LLC. See above for how consent mode works. Google Privacy Policy.
Google AdSense: Provided by Google LLC. Not currently loaded; ads are switched off. Google Ad Policies.
Cloudflare: Provides hosting, content delivery, security, and may collect cookieless performance measurements (Cloudflare Web Analytics). Cloudflare Privacy Policy.
Amazon Associates: Some pages link to products on Amazon through the Amazon Associates programme. If you click such a link, Amazon may set cookies on Amazon's own site to record the referral. We receive a commission on qualifying purchases but do not receive any information about who you are or what you bought.
5. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information. Data may be shared with: the third-party service providers listed above (Google, Cloudflare) as necessary to operate the site; law enforcement or regulatory authorities if required by law or to protect our legal rights; and a successor entity in the event of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, with appropriate notice.
6. Your Rights
GDPR Rights (EU/EEA/UK): You have the right to: access the data we hold about you; request rectification or erasure; restrict or object to processing; data portability; withdraw consent at any time (without affecting prior lawful processing); and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. You can withdraw or change your cookie consent at any time using the "Cookie settings" link in the site footer.
CCPA/CPRA Rights (California): You have the right to: know what personal information is collected; request deletion of personal information; opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information (we do not sell personal information and do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising); and not be discriminated against for exercising your rights.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days (GDPR) or 45 days (CCPA). Because site usage records are hashed and cannot be linked back to you, we cannot look up or delete individual usage records by request.
7. Data Security
We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), access controls on our database, and security monitoring via Cloudflare. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure.
8. Data Retention
Contact form messages are kept until we delete them after handling. Site usage records are kept for as long as they are useful for statistics. Google Analytics data is retained according to the retention setting in our Google Analytics account (14 months by default). Your cookie choice, theme preference and recent comparisons stay in your browser until you clear them. Cloudflare server logs are retained per their data processing agreement.
9. Children's Privacy
This site is not directed at children under 13 (or 16 in the EU/UK). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information through the contact form, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
10. International Data Transfers
Data processed by Google and Cloudflare may be transferred to and stored in the United States or other countries. These transfers are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses or other appropriate safeguards as required by GDPR.
11. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated "Last updated" date. Your continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
